You Might Be Able to Help Dr. Kenneth Prager Save a Life

This is a note from Dr. Kenneth Prager sent to me:

Dear Allen and Dennis,

A dear friend of mine, Irene Katrandjian, a 50 year old mother of 3, is
desperately ill with advanced non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and needs a stem
cell transplant to survive. She may well not live out the year unless
she gets a marrow transplant.  Because of her Armenian heritage, she'll
likely need this donor to be of Armenian descent.  I understand that
Dennis broadcasts in Glendale--with the highest concentration of
Armenians outside of Armenia-- and so he has a unique opportunity to possibly help save her life by making an appeal on her behalf.

Dennis could direct Armenian listeners to www.abmdr.am, a registry of
Armenian marrow and stem cell donors located right in Glendale
(323-663-3609) .  At this point, her only chance for a cure is an
allogeneic stem cell transplant.  In order to perform this procedure,
the doctors need a blood donor who is a genetic match, but currently,
there are no registered donors who qualify.

Being tested to be a possible donor  is simple and requires only a
cotton swab to collect some cheek cells from the inside of one's mouth.
If a person is a match he or she would need only give blood--a simple
and painless procedure.  The donor must be 18 to 60 years old.
The recipient of a match, NOT the donor, incurs all costs.
